Why Greece?

So, you’re probably wondering why we chose to get married in Greece. Almost immediately after we got engaged in July of 2023, it came up in conversation as we started talking about what our wedding could look like.  Michael said, jokingly, “Greece?” and we both laughed but it stayed on our minds as we dreamed about the possibility. As we listed out priorities that would make our day perfect, we quickly narrowed it down to anything that would require us making the least amount of decisions. We love a party, but we’re easygoing too and the small details aren’t as important to us. If we could find somewhere with good food and a stunning background, we would be set. Greece is also a place that we (and a lot of our friends and family) had never visited. Taking a closer look, it’s easy to see why it’s so popular- there is truly something for everyone! Rich history and culture, breathtaking landscapes, picture perfect weather, and most importantly: delicious cuisine. So we were officially convinced. What could be better than celebrating our special day with all of you in one of the most inviting and hospitable places on the planet?

Engagement Day - Eagle Harbor, Door County

In October 2024, we began planning a trip to Greece with our friends Jordan and Ashley, to explore wedding venues—or perhaps stumble across something amazing. From the start, we struggled with basic questions: Where should we go? How do we get there? What should we do?

We quickly realized that planning such a trip, even for a small group, required a lot of decision-making and logistics, especially since we hoped to visit multiple islands. This made us think about how difficult it might be for our friends and family to plan to join us for the wedding. On top of that, the sheer number of Greek islands to choose from was overwhelming. Since we wanted to avoid making endless decisions and preferred keeping things simple, we started considering locations on mainland Athens. However, we soon realized that wasn’t what we envisioned for our wedding, leaving us feeling a bit discouraged.

That’s when we thought, “What about a cruise?” We did some research and discovered that Virgin Voyages happened to be sailing on the exact date we had in mind for our ceremony. A cruise not only eliminates the need to worry about ferries, hotels, or which islands to visit, but it also offers fantastic food, entertainment, and ease for all our guests. It seemed meant to be!

When we think of our wedding now, we envision it as an entire wedding cruise experience. Our dream is to have as many of our friends and family join us on the ship, but we understand that asking people to fly to Greece is already a big request. Adding a cruise on top of that might seem like even more, but we’re confident that the logistics and the experience will make it everything we hope for. We want everyone to relax, enjoy delicious food and drinks, explore beautiful Greek islands, and join us for the ceremony without worrying about the details.

We completely understand that not everyone will be able to make it. We’ve accepted that some incredibly special people won’t be able to join us in Greece, and that’s okay. That’s why we’re planning a reception back in Wisconsin in 2026 that more people can attend!

We will be sharing regular updates here to keep everyone informed but please reach out to us with any questions you have - we can’t wait to share this experience with you!
